“There’s just something about entrepreneurs” opened today’s segment called Entrepreneurs Take Risks Despite Downturn on NPR (listen here). Tamara Keith reports that entrepreneurs “are ridiculously optimistic people, they see opportunity where others see pain, and they believe their business idea is awesome; better than the rest.”
Recently we’ve all seen the big companies blow up and we’ve seen little internet start-ups attract millions of dollars and fizzle out fast. Nevertheless this economic downturn remains a great opportunity to get something started. As we’ve posted before, however, the funds are not necessarily flowing for every nifty business concept no matter how “sure thing” it seems.
Bootstrapping is what its going to be all about for entrepreneurs who take the plunge right now. As all of our families pay more attention to cash flow and budgets, businesses of all sizes are also scaling back on experimental marketing and instead focusing on the fundamentals. For a new entrepreneur that means you better find the shortest path to brining in revenue and find it fast.
Today’s NPR segment is worth a listen as it highlights several entrepreneurs who are ridiculously optimistic and making it work.
